eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built into your phone. Unlike physical SIM cards, you don't need to insert or swap anything — just scan a QR code and you're connected. It's perfect for travelers who want instant mobile data without hunting for local SIM cards at the airport.
Most modern smartphones support eSIM. Here's how to check:
- iPhone: Go to Settings → Cellular → Add Cellular Plan. If you see this option, your iPhone supports eSIM (iPhone XS and newer).
- Android: Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs. If you see 'Add eSIM' or 'Download a SIM instead', your phone supports it.
- Quick check: Dial *#06# — if you see an EID number, your device supports eSIM.
If your phone doesn't have built-in eSIM support, you can use an eSIM adapter like Unisimka or similar adapters available on AliExpress. These small devices fit into your regular SIM slot and add eSIM capability to older smartphones. Just search for "eSIM adapter" on AliExpress to find options compatible with your device.
Activating your eSIM is simple:
- After purchase, you'll receive a QR code on the Payment Succeeded page.
- Open your phone's eSIM settings (Settings → Cellular → Add Cellular Plan on iPhone, or Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM on Android).
- Scan the QR code with your phone's camera or use the esim installation instruction directly.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.
- We strongly advise to install and activate your esim BEFORE you come into your target country.
You can check your remaining data balance in our Customer Portal. After completing your purchase, you'll be able to access the portal directly from the Payment Successful page. There, you'll find all of your orders along with the current data balance for each eSIM.
Yes, turn on data roaming for your eSIM and turn off roaming for your home SIM to avoid high charges. Go to “Settings” > “Cellular” > “Data Roaming.” This is a requirement.
No, each QR code can be scanned by a unique device ID once, and not transferred to another device later.
Yes. All of our eSIMs have enabled hotspot data sharing with other devices as enabled by the device maker. To enable follow this video guide for iOS or Android guide. On iOS, APNs are preconfigured except for Japan (set APN to be “vmobile.jp”). For Android use the eSIM APN password of the eSIM to insure connectivity.
